LED & Face masks

Do I get asked all the time how many times do I mask? Personally, for me, I mask at least 2-3x a week and I love it. There are many different types of masks I use and do and depending on whats going on with my skin and yes I change it all the time.

I also have been incorporating LED after my mask and seen great results like helping fading scarring, reduce pore size, and on top of that it's just so damn relaxing.

Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you with your skincare concerns. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils, and help improve the appearance of your pores. They're also an excellent way to help pull out impurities.

Many people are confused about how often to use a face mask, but in general, you should mask 1-3 times per week. However, certain masks can be used every day. You can use your face mask morning or night – it completely depends on your schedule and your personal preferences.

I recently attended a conference for spa professionals and a big trend I noticed was a ton of LED light therapy machines. The funny thing is, light therapy has been around for quite some time and is making a come back and with good reason.

First, let us talk about what LED stands for - light-emitting diode. LED is a light source that emits infrared light & heat at different wavelengths that penetrate skin cells. They were made famous by NASA for plant growth experiments. They have been studied a lot, they are not dangerous and they contain no harmful UV rays. They are safe for the eyes, though many units come with goggles for the sake of brightness.

.

For skin therapy, they are typically used via single light units, handheld wands, or panels that are pointed at the skin a few inches away. There are home & professional versions, and many different price points to fit everyone’s budget. I will note the at-home versions are less potent than the pro versions but they are still very beneficial. The benefits are cumulative so it’s important to be consistent to reap all the benefits. I recommend 5x a week.

.

There are several colors of light therapy & often used in combination. All colors help with the penetration of skincare products for maximum results. These are the most popular & commonly used colors:

.

🔷 Blue kills P. acnes bacteria and minimizes redness. Studies indicate it reduces acne by 67% and blackheads by 50%! (It’s also used in teeth whitening!)

.

🌹Red reduces inflammation which is great for acne, sensitive skin & rosacea. It stimulates collagen production so it’s great for fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also wonderful for wound healing and blood circulation.

.

🐳 Cyan (light blue) calms & soothes irritated skin and helps to reduce the size of capillaries.

.

💜 Purple increases cell regeneration & renewal and it good for fine lines and wrinkles.

.

🍏 Green is wonderful for hyperpigmentation from sun damage or old post-inflammatory pigmentation left from acne.

.

🌼 Yellow/ 🍊Orange is good for inflammation & reducing the redness associated with rosacea and sunburn and promotes brighter skin.
